You would be surprised to know that it isn’t only kids who suffer from dyslexia, but adults as well and the latter is known as adult dyslexia. The problem with dyslexia, a life long learning disability is that, it cannot be “cured through medicine” and if it remains undiagnosed in childhood, an individual will grow up with dyslexia and turn into an adult dyslexic.

Many have been the cases where an individual has spent his/her entire childhood and adolescence without the knowledge that he/she has dyslexia and it is in adulthood that dyslexia is diagnosed through the numerous online adult dyslexia tests.

15% of the American population or 40 million plus Americans have been diagnosed with adult dyslexia. Out of every 7 Americans, at least 1 adult suffers from the condition of adult dyslexia or learning disabilities. It is really sad to know that in spite of full fledged high decibel awareness campaigns and drives, 95% to 90% adults who suffer from adult dyslexia are not even aware that the learning problems that they have faced throughout their lives might have been because of dyslexia.

Another problem with adult dyslexia is that the adult individual feels shy to disclose his condition to other people out of fear of social stigma and often endeavors to mask his dyslexia or conceal it from the rest of society, which often makes his /her life harder than it already is and more difficult to detect.
USA has now implemented federal laws to make mandatory adult dyslexia tests in all public schools; such is the gravity of the issue of adult dyslexia.
