The third stage of lyme disease which is also known as the disseminated stage is the last stage of the disease when the patient’s entire system has been affected by the bacteria that caused this disease.

The bacteria are transmitted into the human body by the bite of a tick which is known as the deer tick, that locates itself on the skin of a person and within thirty six to forty eight hours bites the person and injects the tick into the blood stream of the person.

This screw shaped bacteria slowly makes its progress to other parts of the body and gives rise to many kinds of problems.

There are different factors which can lead to chronic lyme disease but still there are controversies about the existence of chronic lyme disease. Some of the experts believe that the last stage of lyme disease can be called as chronic whereas some experts have the opinion that the bacteria of lyme disease could not be eradicated completely in spite of treatment with antibiotics and the continuous recurrence of the disease can be called as chronic lyme disease. These patients mostly suffer from symptoms like swelling and pain in the joints and neuropsychiatry problems.

Patients who get early treatment can be easily cured of lyme disease but the main problem is the diagnosis of the disease as it mimics the symptoms of many other diseases which make it impossible for the doctors to diagnose the disease in the early stage.

By the time lyme disease is diagnosed it is so late that many of the symptoms become chronic lyme disease as they cannot be completely cured because, swelling of the joints and the muscular and joint pains along with the continuous fatigue that is experienced by the patient.

Due to wrong diagnosis sometimes the patients are administered drugs which contain steroids and this can cause disastrous effects if the patient is suffering from lyme disease as it will help in replicating the bacteria due to which the disease will become chronic lyme disease. Wrong treatment will not reduce the sufferings but will increase the symptoms and some of the symptoms may linger in the patient for a long period of time which turns it into a chronic lyme disease.
