What is acne? It is an inflammatory disease of the skin which is caused by the clogging of hair follicles (also known as pores). Hair follicles are found all around the human body except for the palms and the bottom of the feet. They are supposed to be where hair grows, although humans don’t actually grow hair in all of these areas.

No one is 100% sure why the hair follicles get clogged although there are several theories including genetics, hormonal changes, stress, and chemicals. We aren’t completely sure how it happens but we are sure that when the follicle gets blocked the oil glands continue to create sebum (oil which normally lubricates the skin) and since it has no where to go it builds up. This leads to the growth of bacteria which causes the acne that people despise so much.

Since acne is essentially caused by oil buildup, people with oily skin are more likely to get it. The most likely places to get it are those which contain the most oil glands such as the back, chest, shoulders, and face. The growth of the bacteria caused by the oil leads to swelling and the formation of acne lesions. People usually refer to these lesions as pimples, spots, and zits. Many people have these lesions at least for a little while during the course of their lives. Skin blemishes are common during acne and include blackheads, whiteheads, papules, pastules, nodules, and cysts. The former four are inflammatory and they are often what we see as pimples, redness, and bumps in the effected area.

Acne is the most common in teenagers, affecting about 85% of people sometime during their teens. It is not as common at other stages of one’s life although it is certainly possible to get it at any age (about 20% of all acne cases occur in adults), especially when hormonal changes are occurring (such as during menstrual periods and pregnancy). Most cases of acne are not severe, as only 15% seek medical attention and even all of those people don’t necessarily need it.

It is recommended to try home remedies or over the counter medication for at least a month before visiting a dermatologist (a skin doctor). Most acne doesn’t leave permanent marks (most of the time it is gone within 3 to 4 years) and once it is gone it is nothing but your past. There are a few very rare types of acne which are severe and may lead to disfiguration and pain.

There are tons of companies and people researching acne and discovering treatments for it due to the public’s demand for such information and products. Most people (especially teenagers) see acne as an embarrassing disease to have and there is a huge market for products to cover up or get rid of acne. The positive thing is that it is curable and it usually doesn’t last for too long. Also, there are more and more treatments, both home made remedies and artificial solutions coming out everyday.

There are several different types of acne, some more common than others. Perhaps the most common (and the one for which most of the research is done) of all is Acne vulgaris. This type of acne is common in adolescents, especially boys. It is what most teenagers with acne have and it is caused by hormones, usually due to puberty. There are several different intensities of acne vulgaris, it is like a spectrum from very little to a lot. Mild to moderate acne vulgaris usually consists acne spots with blackheads, whiteheads, papules, and pastules. Everyone with a mild case will not have all of these types of acne spots. Usually they will only have one or two of these types. Those with more severe cases of acne vulgaris will have the aforementioned symptoms along with nodules and cysts, which not only look a lot worse but may also be very painful.

Rosacea is another common type of acne which is more frequent in middle aged adults. It is often confused with acne vulgaris, but has a few distinct differences such as the lack of blackheads and the visibility of blood vessels (not in all cases). Small red bumps are often visible and pus-filled pimples may also form.

Acne rosacea along with acne vulgaris, are fairly common and aren’t particularly severe compared to some of the other types of acne. The more severe forms of acne are rarer, but they have they have devastating and often irreversible effects. They often lead to disfiguration and excessive pains to those who get them.

Acne Conglobata is still technically classified as acne vulgaris, but its affects are much worse than that of the traditional type. Symptoms often include large lesions along with widespread blackheads. It can cause scarring and damaging effects to the skin, some which can never be cured. It is found almost everywhere on the body including the face, chest, back, arms, and thighs.

Acne Fulminans normally affects young men where as acne conglobata usually affects middle aged people. Scarring and disfiguaration are also common to this type of acne. A major difference between the two is that acne fulminans also induces a fever as well as aching of the joints.

A third severe type of acne is Gram Negative Folliculitis. This type of acne is caused by bacterial infection. Symptoms include pustules and cysts. Not much is known about this type of acne due to its rarity.

Pyoderma Faciale is also a very harsh form of acne that usually only affects women. Most of the acne is only on the face, but it often includes large (and very painful) nodules, sores, and pastules. Scarring is also common in this type of acne. Pyoderma faciale usually only lasts a brief period of time, but it can cover one’s face quickly and the effects can be horrible. Pyoderma like many of the other severe types of acne has everlasting effects and they can truly hurt a person’s esteem. It is a good thing that these severe forms are pretty rare.

Todays market for Acne treatments are worth billions of dollars each year. Consumers will try one acne treatment after another to search for a cure in the hope it will work. I was one of them people myself until I began to realize that to keep trying one different acne treatment each week will not help problem acne, in fact sometimes, can make it worse.

There are so many reasons for an acne product, acne treatment or even an acne program not to seem so effective, but a good reason can sometimes be due to the user not being prepared to wait for results. Any acne treatment will come with full instructions for many reasons.

When an acne treatment is used more than recommended, it may cause skin irritating and a result of that could cause more acne to breakout. The downside to also taking an acne treatment when not recommended, is it can make the medication much more less effective.

So,when trying an acne treatment try to be patient before you try another. A good acne treatment will take upto 2 to 3 weeks before you will start to see any kind of results. The secret to getting results out of your acne treatment is to use as recommended, not over doing it, and give it as much time as possible, don’t mistake a product’s inefficiencys with your impatience.

Pregnancy may lead to acne for some. Most people believe that it is due to the increased hormonal activity in the body at the time. Specifically, the hormone androgen is said to push the sebaceous glands in your skin to create more sebum (oil). This eventually leads to the blocking of the hair follicles and the emergence of bacteria. The bacteria then multiplies and can cause the acne.

Remember, you are always told when you are pregnant you must consult a doctor before taking any types of treatments or medicine and this also applies to acne treatment.

There are so many solutions used to get rid of acne. One of the most famous acne treatments is the Pro Active Acne solution which is used by most people. This kind of solution received a lot of supports from celebrities and other individuals with high reputations. In fact, many celebrities have endorsed the product.

Pro active acne solutions were discovered or invented by just two dermatologists who were making researches about the cure for people who are experiencing acne breakouts. Pro active acne solution is very expensive but worth every penny that will come to spend on it.

The reason why this kind of solution is very expensive is that the ingredients used to formulate this solution are also very expensive. Those ingredients are not made from natural elements but made of some chemicals and elements. However, these chemicals will or will not suit to every person.

Pro active acne solutions results may vary their effects from person to person even if they are made out of expensive chemicals. That why they made pro active solutions not just a single product but a set of products. So that if one chemical will not suit the skin of a certain person, at least there are other options that’s why it’s worth buying them. There are only three basic functions these products could give.

First is that it will kill the bacteria clogged in the skin pores responsible for creating irritation that would lead to acne. The second is that is will control the amount of oil that the skin is producing from time to time. But that doesn’t mean that it would block the skin from producing oil. It would help the skin produce enough so that the skin will not be over dried.

One of the major problems for other acne solutions is that it would make the skin so dry that would even lead to peeling off. And lastly, it would clean those excess oils and dirt in the skin to avoid acne breakouts. However, it is always advisable to visit your doctor if a breakouts persist and before you use pro active for your acne.

The number one way to prevent acne is to have clean skin! Of course this sounds easier than it is. Stay away from the hype of cleansers and toners, and settle for a mild soap. A gentle soap will do more good for your skin than a cleanser ever could.

For extreme cases of acne where cleansers are needed, be sure to ask your dermatologist what a good cleanser would be for your personal situation. Again everyones case of acne is different so you’ll want to find out whats best for you.

A sure fire way to get a bad case of acne is by using non-friendly cosmetics. If you develop a case of acne you may need to change your selection of cosmetics. Check your cosmetics and discard any oil based make-ups.

When purchasing cosmetics, keep in mind that you need products that are noncomedogenic. However, nothing beats cosmetics free skin. If it all possible try to avoid makeups for the most part or get rid of them all together. Though I understand that it may be hard for some of you.

Washing your pillow cases and towels is an effective precaution that many sufferers of acne forget about. The logic hear is fairly simple. Your towels and pillow cases collect dead skin, bacterias, and oils every time you use them, so simple cleaning these on a regular basis will ensure that you’re face isn’t being exposed to easily avoidable bacterias.

Drink lots of water. This will keep you healthy in general and will also help your body remove any toxins that could be the cause of your acne.

The word lamictal which is medically known as lamotrigine is some kind of medication for epileptic patients or commonly known as anticonvulsant. People who are undergoing such medication can easily get acne. This kind of acne is what we call as lamictal acne which is usually very painful because it would not just cause acne but it causes it to swell.

People who have never experienced any skin problems before but undergoing such treatment will surely get this kind of acne related symptoms.
A lot of research were done to cure lamictal acne in a natural way. One of the many ways is using the gold soap like ASSO. This kind of soap is evidently known to reduce breakouts of lamictal acne.

Usually, a bar of this gold soap is worth $25 which will last a month or two depending on the usage. However, if this seems to be so expensive for you, it would be better to start using garlic cloves by rubbing it over your skin. Garlic has been known to be the one of the herbs that cures or prevents different kinds of diseases and illnesses.

Or you may like mixing two tablespoons of citrus fruits or lemon juice with a tablespoon of yeast. This kind of mixture will act as a cleanser mask for the face and once it dries you can just peel them off. Some people especially those in show business use mashed avocado as their treatment for lamictal acne.

Diet plays a great role in maintaining the balance in your body. Eating nutritious foods such as fruits and vegetables will help keep the body producing natural hormones and will help your skin remain as smooth as it is when you are still young.

Eating oily foods will make your body produce more hormones which is not needed in the body. And also, be mindful of the drinks you are taking. Never drink those drinks with lots of caffeine in because it will result to sleeplessness, thus, will decrease the production of the natural hormones. Just remember that acne is the result of hormonal inbalance.

Most of the doctors, however, do not believe that lamictal is the cause of these acne breakouts of acne but it is medication of lamictal that causes the hormonal inbalance in the body. Thus will lead to production of acne in your face. But whatever they believe in, a lot of doctors will still call it lamictal acne.

Though getting a store bought skin care product, may seem like a fast solution, as I mentioned before, they don’t work for every person. Luckily there are other options. And these are both natural and best of all they’re cheap or even free!

Cucumber Juice:

Cucumber juice not only relaxes skins inflamed from acne, but it also does a pretty good job at cleaning skin.

Lavender Oil:

This technique has been around for ages! Simply dab the damaged skin with lavender oil with a cotton swab.
Do this 2 times daily and you should notice a difference in just a few applications.

Oatmeal and Sour Cream Face Mask:

This works in the same way that mud masks work. To make the mask, mix 1 teaspoon of oatmeal, 1 teaspoon yogurt, 1 teaspoon of sour cream. Apply this mix to your face for 10 minutes a day and expect fast results and great feeling skin. You can also try this with just oatmeal, but the yogurt and sour cream help to make it more appropriate to be applied as a mask.

Lemon Juice:

Using a cotton ball apply a mixture of lemon juice and rosewater. Leave this remedy on you face for about 30 minutes. Continue this method rigorously for 2 to 3 weeks.

Bedouin Method:

This method requires that eat a grated radish with each and every meal. Drink 2 cups of rosemary tea daily, and 3 glasses of water mixed with squeezed lemon and honey. This isn’t the most pleasant treatment, but its been found to be quite effective.

Tea:

Mix 2-3 tea bags with basil in hot water. Boil for about 30 minutes and apply to effected areas with a cotton ball. Lifestyle Changes That Will Prevent Acne In some cases natural or medical treatments aren’t even needed. Sometimes all its takes is that you take care of yourself and your skin in particular. The following methods are easy to implement and can work wonders when it comes to preventing acne and reducing the frequency and harshness of breakouts.

Exercise:

Its so simple its stupid. Exercising daily will help you get rid of toxins and will relieve stress, a known cause of acne. A morning jog, a few curls, daily push ups, or any small work out will work wonders for your acne. But remember not to over do it. Working out too much can actually have the very opposite effect of a proper workout, it will raise toxin and stress levels.

Change Your Diet:

What and how we eat plays a big role in how our body handles acne. First you should stop snacking. Eating throughout the day uses up your body’s resources that could be used to fight your acne. Having a more vegetarian diet will work wonders for your skin too. Veggies carry little to no toxins. And will allow your body to dispose of more toxins than it normally would be able to.

Try to add Zinc and vitamin A to your diet. Zinc will help repair blemishes and will prevent other breakouts. Vitamin A will help your body to produce natural oils. Don’t over do it with the Vitamin A though, because you obviously don’t want too much oil.

So how do you find out what you need to fight your acne? Well the simple answer is to just go a dermatologist. They probably know better than anyonewhat treatment is best for you.
Almost any dermatologist will recommend 1 of 3 options or a combination of 2 or 3:

Preventative products.

Over-the-counter,specialized products.

Prescription acne products.

Preventative Products:

These are what people usually imagine first when acne care is brought up.Proactiv, Oxyclean, and generic face washes are all examples of preventative products. These are essentially skin cleaners. These are products that are supposed to enhance the skin care routines that you should be practicing on a daily basis in order to keep clean skin, which will prevent acne in nearly every case.

However, once you’ve gotten acne, it can be very difficult to get rid off, and unfortunately these products won’t do you all that much good. In which case you’ll have to move on to one of the other forms of treatment.

Specialized Products:

These are similar to the preventative products but are much more extreme, however they still don’t require a prescription to obtain. Benzoyl peroxideand salicylic acid found in most pads and washes are prime examples ofthese specialized skin care products. These two products are great a fighting bacteria, the cause of acne.

Benzoyl peroxide isn’t for everyone though. Some people’s skin in too sensitive for the chemical and it may result in a strange reaction or allergy. When experimenting with this method use a concentration of the benzoyl peroxide no greater than 5%, so you can see how you’ll react to it. If in doubt, contact your dermatologist.

If treatments like these aren’t effective for you case of acne, then it may be time for some prescription skin care products.

Prescription Acne Products:

Hence the name, you can only get these products via prescription from you dermatologist. This route should be last resort. These treatments can vary greatly. Creams, soaps, hormonal treatments, or even oral medications. There are many new treatments being developed in this market, with new ones popping up all the time since acne effects so many people. See your dermatologist for the latest common treatments.

Acne can occur on any parts of the body; face, back, neck and chest. But there are kinds of acne that are very painful in nature. These are the harshest forms of acne. And such kinds are very dangerous. If you have acne in your face, just leave it there and never squeeze or pick those because there are forms of acne that are cystic in nature. These kinds of acne are called cystic acne.

You cannot cure acne infections overnight especially those cystic acne. You need to go to physician so that you will be advised what to do and what to use to get rid of those in a very safety manner. There are those who really have inflamed and deep breakouts that would develop on the face or in any parts of the body that are capable of developing cystic acne. These kinds of blemishes can become really large that some of these can be measured up to several centimeters across your face.

A lot of people use the word “cystic” to any kind of that severe, deep, inflamed type of acne but that acne that will develop into cysts are the ones that should be called cystic acne. To have this kind of acne, you must consult your doctor to have good advice because that is the most serious kind of acne blemishes.

Usually, these kinds of acne are fluid-filled and soft lumps under the skin. Like an iceberg, the one that you can see are small but what is underneath is really big. Cysts are very painful and dangerous because it will lead to cancer if not treated immediately.

Main causes of this kind of acne and its development cannot be defined because it varies from person to person. Some of the conceptions of the development of this kind of acne are hormonal imbalance and dirt on the skin since acne is just a sort of infection caused by bacteria. But some medical practitioners and skin experts would claim that some acne or even cystic acne is hereditary in nature.

There are no definitive cures of cystic acne. But the good thing is the probability of getting cystic acne is from 10 to 20 percent only. So whatever people say, it would be better to prevent cystic acne than to cure it. So be mindful of what you eat. You may have acne if you are always eating fatty and oily foods. It would be better if you just balance your meals. Eat healthy food.

What could be worse than seeing our babies face getting red with acne after birth? We normally expect our babies to have smooth, clear, and silky soft skin that’s very sensitive and fragile to touch at birth. Some of us cringe to think that are baby can get pimples as young as they are.

Acne neonatorum, most commonly known as baby acne, is a skin problem that affects newborn or babies a few weeks old. These are characterized by small bumps or whiteheads, and are usually surrounded by reddish skin. These often erupt in the cheeks, chin, forehead, nape and sometimes even appears in the back, arms, and legs of the baby.

Mothers need not panic if they see these small pimples since this is a common occurrence among babies, often this would come out after a week or two, though some might have acne at the time of birth. This could even get redder and bigger if the baby is feeling hot as it also gets easily irritated by constant rubbing of rough fabric or could be a baby cloth washed with strong detergents, the baby’s saliva and spilled milk. These could also gets easily inflamed by constant wiping and touching or pinching of the baby’s skin by dirty hands or linens.

The cause of a baby’s acne has been a source of research for pediatricians and dermatologists alike, but there is still no conclusive answer to this. Although, some experts think this might be caused by hormonal changes during the last stages of pregnancy and is being transmitted by the mother to her baby.

Another culprit could be the use of unclean baby clothes or linens or unclean hands that prepare the baby’s things. On the other hand, prescribed medications for the baby or medications for the mother while nursing can cause the acnes also.

By simply washing the baby’s infected areas with water and mild soap can help minimize or get rid of acnes. It is not advisable to put ointments or creams as it might irritate the baby’s skin more. These acnes will eventually go away after a few months, however if it still recurs they may need to have it checked with pediatricians or dermatologists.
