			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>One more important aspect in Pilates must be noted. It is concerned with mats used for exercises. As in the case of Yoga, Pilates practitioners also use a mat. However, we will see here the significant difference between a Yoga and Pilates mat. In the first instance Pilates mat must be thicker, at least half an inch thick. Yoga mats are generally not that thick and need not be that thick either. Pilates Mat must not be soft.</p>
<p>For the exercises to be effectively done, there must be firmness in the surface of the mat. A thin or soft mat would be unsuitable. It may also be remembered that during standing postures during Yoga practice, a feel of the ground by the feet is good while such stipulation is not necessary for the Pilates mat.</p>
<p>It should also be borne in mind that the Pilates mat should be 72” – 86” long and 21” -36” wide. This will give a comfortable ambience. Mats made up of dense foam or rubber made an ideal material for Pilates mat which can be rolled up as well. Dense foam or rubber material will assure appropriate thickness.</p>
<p>An example may be cited regarding the correct utility of a Pilates Mat for doing an exercise. This will clarify the position. Single-leg stretch exercise is helpful for maintaining a fit abdomen. And when a circular motion I made the mind should not be burdened with the anxiety regarding the possible disruption of the mat which is likely to occur in case of a thin or unsuitable material mat. While preparing to inhale and out hale and while preparing for the circular movement of the leg stretch the mind should be absolutely steady and free from any care or anxiety. This is possible when the thickness of the mat is assured. This is even more important when one has to maintain upper bode curve in a proper position.</p>
<p>It may also be mentioned that judicious and proper use of Pilate Mat enables the performer to effectively do the stretching basics, single leg kick, double leg stretch and single leg stretch modified in a very neat and proper manner. Due credit then must be given to the silent helper, namely, the mat for these exercises to be done properly.</p>

<p>While the Pilates equipment are widely acclaimed and used, we must also bear in mind that there are a number of Pilate exercises with or without equipment that help in toning up the body. Simple resistance bands and exercise balls aid the practitioner. We may see some of the exercises now.</p>
<p>It must be remembered that the exercises are primarily to strengthen the abdomen and the buttocks. It is considered that these are like power houses for the entire body and accordingly care must be taken to sustain them in the peak of condition always. Generally three different types of exercises are prescribed depending upon whether one is a notice or at the middle level or at an advanced level. These are meant to “increase flexibility, strengthen the muscles and improve posture”.</p>
<p>Distinct and different Pilates exercises are prescribed for strengthening abdomen, arms, shoulders, shoulders, back, chest and legs. Naturally a systematic and regular practice of these exercises strengthen the different muscles and contribute to the general well-being. <p>Similarly particular attention must be paid to the proper diet and its nutritious value. There are competent Pilates advisors in this regard and sufficient number of guidelines to help the individual to correctly choose the diet required to retain stamina without resort to over-eating. When proper care is exercised over the intake of food most of the problems would disappear. Otherwise the good effects of exercises would be nullified.</p>
