Teeth whitening is no longer an issue of being vain. It has become a necessity to many and this is evidenced by the different types of products and services focused in the maintenance of teeth and oral hygiene. Even toothbrushes are made electric with different contours and all just to ensure that the teeth get proper care and cleaning. Toothpastes also have different ingredients for different purposes. Many toothpaste brands now not only contain chemicals to clean the teeth but also to whiten them.

In line with these, the setback to many people is that they do not get what they want precisely because they used a product not fit for them. Or perhaps they used something that is not at all effective. Here are a few tips for you to avoid being one of those people who frown in frustration because they cannot get white teeth.

First, you have to talk to your dentist. So many people make the mistake that they can diagnose their own problems. As a result, they buy products that do not give them what they desire. Not all teeth whitening products are effective. People are often lured into buying these products because of the inviting commercials or ads. In reality, these products are not really fit for them because they need something else. A dentist will definitely know best. Since dentists are professionals, it is always a must that every prescribed treatment is based on facts, not on assumptions. Dentists will not give you a teeth whitening treatment if it does not suit you personally based on your lifestyle, oral, and health conditions.

Second, know your options. Read materials regarding teeth whitening procedures, products, applications, and services. For example, bleaching in itself may not be completed in only one session. It can happen several times depending on the nature of your teeth. Teeth whitening can be an arduous ordeal that one has to be patient with. If one application may not be suitable for one’s lifestyle, other options may be considered. If one cannot pay a visit to the dentist’s office regularly, then a home teeth whitening regimen may sound good.

Third, screen products carefully. Many people waste a lot of money because they buy off-the-counter products without consulting any dentist if the product really delivers what it claims. It is strongly advised that one asks a friend who has tried the product before purchasing it to see actual results. Testimonials are powerful ways of measuring product effectiveness if a consultation with a dentist or oral professional is not at all possible or desired.

People should be careful in choosing teeth whitening products as many of these have ingredients that may prove harmful to the soft tissues of the mouth. In effect, what may have been a satisfying experience may turn out to be a nightmare if the product misuse ends up in having burns in the mouth.

The tips given above are just the basics in guiding you to a safe teeth whitening experience. As always, it is advised that sound judgment should be practiced at all times. Always remember: one wrong step in teeth bleaching or teeth whitening can lead to a serious frown.

If hair is a person’s crowning glory, white teeth are the jewels. It has been said time and again that teeth are also indicators of how hygienic a person is. Also, teeth comprise a smile how the teeth look like impacts how one is perceived. Everybody wants a perfect set of shiny white teeth. It is unfortunate that few people are blessed with natural white teeth and it is due to this that teeth whitening products and services are made available.

Teeth that look mossy and awful are always a turn off. Also, it does not make a person very confident of himself and this alienates him from the crowd. Bad looking teeth are always associated with bad breathe. Although we were all born to have white teeth, things change as we grow older. People smoke and drink substances like coffee that affect the teeth’s condition and color. As such, it may be said that nature by itself cannot combat the harmful substances that affect the teeth’s color. It is therefore necessary to aid teeth whitening with certain chemicals to retain a 1000-watt smile.

Commonly known as teeth whitening, teeth bleaching may not be a surgical procedure but it significantly falls into the category of cosmetic dentistry just about the same way it is with dental braces or retainers. Normally, what people prefer in the teeth whitening procedure is the usage of hydrogen peroxide. This chemical has an effect that lightens the tooth’s color and bleaches the tooth’s enamel. However, even if this has been proven effective, the effect will only last for a very short period of time if proper oral hygiene is not practiced. One common cause that will shorten the effect of hydrogen peroxide is tobacco.

The usage of hydrogen peroxide may be applied in two ways. One common method is to have a dentist apply the chemical or solution in the clinic. Since bleach will harm the soft tissues found in the mouth, many dentists use a concentration called carbamide peroxide. This solution is gentle to the mouths tissues and does not pose any threat to the gums. Carbamide peroxide is simply a solution that later on transforms or breaks down into hydrogen peroxide once it is applied to the teeth. What the dentist does is to apply some kind of cream to the gums and other soft tissue of the mouth prior to the application of this. This ensures that burning will not occur since hydrogen peroxide may hurt the gums.

The other way of doing this is through a DIY or do-it-yourself. Many products are now for sale which has simple instructions to follow and the person who will use it does not need the assistance of a dentist, provided that the person has not other medical condition in the mouth. These packages come with a mouth guard that serves as a protector for the gums from the harmful effects of hydrogen peroxide. However, it has been said that this has very minimal effect since many products have low concentration of hydrogen peroxide in what they sell. On the average, the concentration is just 10%.

Teeth whitening is a cosmetic procedure that is supposed to make one person show off that wonderful smile. Ironically, this can also make someone frown and hide his teeth instead of showing them. This is going to happen if the person who used a teeth whitening product did not follow the instructions carefully. This is also possible if the person deliberately added or increased the dosage.

There are risks associated with teeth whitening. This is especially so if the teeth whitening procedure applied is the use of hydrogen peroxide. It is also risky if the procedure used is bleaching. One known side effect of bleaching the teeth is chemical burn. This affects the soft tissues in the mouth as the bleach is applied on the teeth. The gums are also at risk of chemical burns since the gums are very sensitive.

Another issue associated with bleaching is teeth discolor. There is a likelihood that the teeth will eventually darken and lose the whitening effects of bleaching. This is called the rebound effect. According to a study, the average rebound time—that is the time that passes by before the bleaching effect is gone—is 30 days. It has also been found that it is easier to lose the bleaching effect if the shade is lighter three to four times.

The next risk of teeth whitening or bleaching is sensitivity of teeth. Mild irritation is also associated with tooth sensitivity. This happens because as the teeth are whitened, the enamels are also damaged. They become more sensitive and easily irritated. Another issue that is associated with teeth whitening is irritation of tissues surrounding the mouth because of the mouth piece or mouth guards used during teeth whitening. This is because they do not fit well in the mouth and thus causes irritation. Irritation of this kind is not due to the bleaching agent. However, patients should be assured that this will be gone in three days.

It is generally advised that people who want to use teeth whitening products should consult a professional first. This is because there are many chemical components that may lead to serious side effects if a consultation is not done. Most of the times, a dentist will not advise a patient to used teeth whitening products if the patient has faulty dentures or fillings. One should also think that hydrogen peroxide and other bleaching products do not whiten other materials such as porcelain and other teeth fillings. So as a result, the rest of the teeth may be white but the teeth that have fillings are not white.

As a general rule, teeth whitening products should only be used after the patient has consulted a dentist. This is due to the fact that there are chemicals that will cause more damage than good. The problem is that people do not want to consult professionals if they can find products which they can use by themselves. This is especially so if the products are bought over the counter without the necessity of any prescription.

Technology and discovery has paved the way for many cosmetic and surgical procedures and medications that will help people get better teeth. Teeth whitening is one of the most sought after dental services as it marks a lifetime of developing self-esteem. As observed, majority of people who avail of this dental cosmetic are adults because the enamels of adult teeth are lesser damaged than kids. There are several approaches to teeth whitening that we will tackle here. Among these are toothpastes, whitening strips, and gels.

Before moving on, please be informed that teeth whitening is not recommended for everyone. This is only ideal for people who never had any fillings on their teeth. Accordingly, people with teeth that have yellow tone are the best candidates to avail of teeth whitening services.

The first type of teeth whitening is through the usage of toothpaste that is designed and chemically formulated to whiten teeth. It is said that all toothpastes contain chemicals which act as mild abrasives that scrub the teeth surface. Teeth whitening toothpastes are chemically enhanced to produce more active ingredients that will remove teeth stains especially from tobacco and coffee.

However, people should not be misled that whitening toothpastes contain bleaching chemicals. There are toothpastes in the market that claim their products that have bleach although it is not true. As a general observation, whitening toothpastes can only lighten the teeth one shade as opposed to hydrogen peroxide or bleaching which can whiten teeth by about eight shades.

The next approach to teeth whitening is the usage of strips and gels. These are also chemicals highly concentrated with whitening agents and these are applied to the teeth directly by using a gentle and small brush. In a normal set-up, products such as these will require the user to use it twice daily for at least 14 days. However, the length of its effect can only last up to four months. This is a cheap way of whitening teeth as the general cost is only about $15 USD and this is already good for 14 days.

There is also this approach called tray-based tooth whitening. What’s done in this process or approach is that some sort of a mouth gear is worn for a certain period of time. This mouth gear contains a solution that removes the stains from the teeth. Some of these products require at least two hours of wearing them. Some may require longer, even a whole night while the person is asleep.

There is one reminder that one should never forget about teeth whitening. Before a person gets involved with teeth whitening, it is generally advised that a consultation with a dentist is made. It is imperative that a test on chemicals be conducted to find out if the chemicals are harmful to the person or if it may cause serious allergies. Sometimes, what may have been advertised will not be at all beneficial to the end user but will instead bring about worse conditions or ailment.

It is understood that many people desire whiter teeth. This is because they want to get better smiles and they want to feel more confident. A smile can attract people and it brings out the best out of people. However, many individuals do not smile because they do not feel that their teeth are worth showing, especially in a society in beauty has been categorized and labeled. The concept of beauty nowadays has become in ingrained in the head instead of being spontaneous.

One of the most popular ways of getting whiter teeth is through the use of hydrogen peroxide. However, a lot of people do not even ask what it is and to what extent it can be used in bleaching teeth. So many people made the mistake of buying hydrogen peroxide for home use and abusing the recommended dosage that ended up in serious burns in the mouth.

Hydrogen peroxide is used in several ways, one of which is through a mouthpiece. This is similar to a mouthpiece worn by boxers in the ring during a fight. The difference is that this is worn for several hours, especially during sleep, and this mouthpiece is concentrated with hydrogen peroxide. The other method is to apply hydrogen peroxide solution directly to the teeth. However, caution should be practiced and it is not really recommended that this is done at home without the supervision of a dentist. A dentist would know best if the treatment is enough or what dosage should be used to avoid complications.

Hydrogen peroxide is a bleaching agent. It is found in many toothpastes and teeth whitening products. The most common function of hydrogen peroxide, other than teeth whitening, is that it is used to bleach papers during manufacturing. If it is of any use, hydrogen peroxide is a combination of hydrogen and oxygen.

People who are looking forward to using hydrogen peroxide as a treatment for teeth whitening should know that there are also harmful side effects. Remember that hydrogen peroxide is also a chemical. Any misuse or abuse can lead to damage instead of the desired result. Some hydrogen peroxide products are used in cleaning contact lenses. There have been recorded incidents in which this medication resulted to irritated eyes.

This does not end in the eyes. Swallowing hydrogen peroxide in large quantities is proved fatal. This can also lead to buns in the soft tissues in the mouth. Other than that, the stomach and intestines may also be damaged. One solution to his is to keep the dilution high. If hydrogen peroxide is diluted in water, with water higher in mixture or content, it is less likely to cause any damages to the skin, mouth, eyes, intestine, and stomach

It was also noted in a study that hydrogen peroxide can cause cancer. This is because hydrogen peroxide is an agent that affects the multiplication of cancer cells in the body. So users must be aware of this especially those who already have cancer cells present in their body.
