Staph is a commonly used medical term for the bacteria which are medically known as staphylococcus which is not only found on many people but is also present in the environment. The bacteria are harmless in this condition but start its harmful effects as soon as it reaches inside the human body through open wounds, broken skin due scratching or rashes and cuts on the skin.
It also can spread with food which is consumed without washing the hands, especially for children who have the habit of digging their nose in their food as these bacteria are also found in the nostrils.
They are nearly thirty types of different bacteria in staph and these bacteria are responsible for many types of sicknesses but none of them are fatal, unless you get staph MRSA then it can become fatal. Most of the skin diseases are caused by these bacteria.
Even the skin ailment called impetigo which is mostly found in children is caused by staph. In this infection a type of formation takes place on the skin which is full of pus which dries up and forms a yellow crust on the skin. But lately it has been discovered that the diseases caused by these bacteria can also become serious and lead to the death of a person.
Persons who can be affected by Staph Bacteria
People who are vulnerable to the infections caused by staph bacteria are those who have a very weak immune system due to radiation therapy, immunosuppressive medication, cancer treatment and use of steroids.
Other people who can easily be affected by staph bacteria are people suffering from diabetes, lung disease, cancer, AIDS, kidney disease or any other type chronic disease. Newborn babies, people who are recovering from some type of surgery, old people, drug addicts who use needles and even breast-feeding mothers can be affected by the staph bacteria. Staph MRSA is the staph aureus which have become Methicillin- resistant.
Preventive measures
There are preventive measures which can be taken to avoid the infections caused by staph MRSA. Always treat any type of cuts or wounds on the skin immediately as these bacteria can easily enter the body through the open skin. If any type of antibiotics has been prescribed then the entire course should be completed. Proper hygiene should be maintained and hands must always be washed before eating the food.
