As soon as you get hold of your baby first time the labor room, you should try to feed your baby. Still the milk must not have been developed. There is a substance called colostrums which helps in protecting the baby from all infections.
Breast feeding in itself is an art which requires lots and lots of patience. Don’t panic if your baby has trouble feeding. You can ask for help from the nurse or others on how to go about it since not all are expert initially.
If it hurts initially, the latching on, try to stop it temporarily and start a little later. It is always advisable to nurse your baby as much as you can during the initial stages as more you feed your baby more milk will be produced. Breast feeding at least 10 times each of around 10 minutes is an ideal way to start nursing.
Your baby is ready for breast feeding when it starts crying. It is a sign that you should understand and feed immediately.
Try to find a cozy place to feed your baby as it may take longer times sometimes. As you should also feel comfortable or you may end up with bad back or neck.
